David L. McFarland

David L. McFarland was born and raised in Hartsville, South Carolina. After graduating from Butler High School, David enlisted in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged after four years.  He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the District of Columbia with a major in Secondary Education and a minor in Social Studies.  He completed his Masters Degree program in Secondary Education and a Thirty-Hour Certificate in Education Administration both from the University of South Carolina.

He lived in New York City and Washington DC prior to returning to Hartville. Mr. McFarland accepted a teaching position at Hartsville Junior High School in 1973 and has held numerous positions with the Darlington County School District, retiring in 2000 as Principal of North Hartsville Elementary School.

Mr. McFarland has served on the Board of Directors for the following organizations:  Hartsville Crime Stoppers, American Red Cross, Byerly Hospital, Butler Heritage Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and is presently serving as a member of the Burry Park Committee.

David is married to Juanita Coleman McFarland of Society Hill. They have three children:  one daughter, two sons, and four grandchildren.  He is actively involved at Jerusalem Baptist Church where he serves on the Board of Deacons, church choir and is a Sunday School teacher.

Councilmember David L. McFarland was elected to serve on Hartsville’s City Council in November of 2001.
