H-CAT “Hartsville Community Acting Together”
The Hartsville Police Department is accepting applications for its Citizen’s Police Academy. Citizens interested in participating in the program may obtain applications at the Hartsville Police Department. The Citizen’s Police Academy will serve to educate, orient, and train our citizens in the fundamental issues facing law enforcement. Requirements and curriculum for the voluntary Academy are as follows:
Requirements: ¨ Must be at least eighteen years of age. ¨ Must live or work within the City of Hartsville. ¨ Complete a Personal History Form. ¨ Undergo a background investigation to include a criminal history check. ¨ Must ride with officers a minimum of 12 hours on first, second and third shifts between Thursdays and Saturdays. ¨ Must attend at least fifteen hours of the Citizens' Police Academy.
Curriculum: ¨ Administration, Criminal Justice System Overview, Training Curriculum. ¨ Patrol operations, Dare, S.R.O., and Use of Force Continuum. ¨ Community Oriented Policing, Bike Patrol, Constitutional Law, ¨ Criminal Investigations, Visit 911 Center. ¨ Drug Issues, Crime prevention, Court Issues, Victims Advocate, ¨ Graduation, Special Topics.
