Parks and Leisure Services

The City of Hartsville’s Parks and Leisure Services Department is comprised of thirteen full time employees and one contract employee. The Parks and Leisure Services Department is made up of four divisions: Byerly Park, Streets & Grounds Maintenance, Parks and Recreation, and Cemeteries.

The Parks and Leisure Services Department is responsible for the planning, organizing, and the development of Byerly Park, a multi-use recreation complex located on 14th Street and Russell Road. When completed, Byerly Park will be one of the finest recreation facilities in the southeast.  Currently, Byerly Park has six soccer fields, two football fields, horseshoe pits, six tennis courts, a 1.2 mile walking/jogging/biking trail, plus four softball/baseball fields  an eight-lane track and field facility, and two playgrounds. Future plans call for the addition of a four-field youth complex, a multi-use gymnasium, two additional parking areas, and a third entrance into the facility.

Parks and Recreation provides well-rounded opportunities for athletic, non-athletic, and Senior Citizen programs. Funded by Darlington County and The City of Hartsville, the Hartsville Recreation Department offers opportunities and special events throughout the entire year.
