The Hartsville Fire Department was established on April 6, 1908. The first city fire apparatus consisted of a wagon pulled by two horses named “Billy” and “Mann” who served the city from 1909 until 1917. Today, the department protects approximately 7,500 City and 31,000 County residents within a 24.27 square mile response area. They operate with five fire engines, one 100-foot aerial tower ladder truck, one quick attack brush unit, and one service truck.

A full range of emergency services are provided including fire suppression, fire prevention and education classes, hazardous materials response, medical first responder, and code enforcement.

The City of Hartsville Fire Department is a very progressive and professional organization. They place high value on its residents, business owners, and visitors to the community and are proud to serve. They constantly strive to improve the level of services the staff provides to the whole community.
