How to obtain a Business License We recognize business owners have invested time, effort, money and dreams into their enterprise. We make the City license application process as simple and quick as possible. Business license applications are obtained in the City of Hartsville’s Finance Department, main floor, 133 W Carolina Ave, Hartsville, South Carolina, or on-line by clicking the icon below. Applications must be signed and approved by the Building & Codes Inspector. Businesses must meet all the following criteria: Building Codes Zoning Codes Fire and Safety Codes Contractors operating within the City of Hartsville are required to provide the Building Inspector with a copy of their SC State Contractors or Home Builders license prior to applying for a city business license. The license fee is based on gross income on the preceding calendar or fiscal year, and/or on a 12 month projected income for the business. There is a base rate on the first $2,000; a set amount for each $1,000 in excess is then applied. | Any business located within the City of Hartsville or performing work within the city limits is required to purchase a business license each year. Licenses are valid from January 1st to December 31st and are renewable by January 31st of the following year without a penalty. A 5% per month penalty incurs on or after February 1st. All business licenses are handled in the Finance department. They will be happy to assist you in the calculation of fees based on gross income of your business. |
