| You need a building permit: For construction or alteration of a structure. For construction of an addition. For demolishing or moving a structure. When moving a lot line which effects an existing structure. When changing windows. When building a shed, deck, or sunroom. Installing new heat pump or furnace. Installing new electrical service. You do not need a building permit: When the total value of the remodel project is less than $200.00. When repairing existing appliances or plumbing. When installing sidewalks or driveways. When purchasing a portable building, such as an 8’ X 10’ storage shed. Separate permits are required for electrical and plumbing, mechanical and gas work on commercial buildings, but not on residential. If you are in doubt about whether or not a permit is required, please call our office between 8 am and 5 pm at 843-383-3025; we can help you make that determination. |
